The Minnesota Timberwolves offense has been revived. It’s about damn time. After languishing away in the bottom third of the league for most of the season, they’ve climbed up to 16th in points per 100 possessions, according to Cleaning The Glass. Located within that number is their first-ranked offensive rating (!) in January. They’re rolling, folks, and Anthony Edwards has quickly become the head of that highly venomous scoring snake.
Contrary to logic, head coach Chris Finch hasn’t overhauled his offense or tried to implement anything out of the box to get his team going, he has simply stuck to his guns and let Minnesota’s shooting woes dissipate over time. He has also watched as Edwards has kicked his game into another gear. That always helps. While Karl-Anthony Towns has taken an unexpected step back in usage and D’Angelo Russell has maintained a second or third option role, Anthony Edwards has been utterly unchained — as a scorer and especially a decision-maker — during this latest stretch of Wolves excellence.

Let’s start simple with this ‘Horns Elbow Double Drag’ action. Finch loves simple. Finch really loves Horns. Finch loves getting Anthony Edwards moving downhill more than anything. Check, check, and check. Just because this is simple, however, it doesn’t mean it’s ineffective. Sometimes the simple works just as well as the complex and daring.
