It’s hard to analyze offensive play calling when that offense has been struggling in the way Minnesota’s has so far this season. Along with the sweet taste of winning and the still unfathomable teamwide defensive improvements, watching that offense start to find its footing this past week has been extremely satisfying.
Over the past five outings — the four-game win streak and the close-but-respectable loss to the Phoenix Suns — Minnesota has scored 115 points per 100 possessions. For reference, the Utah Jazz currently leads the league by scoring 114.5 points per 100 possessions. Minnesota isn’t going to sustain the kind of offense that blows the doors off the gym, but it’s important that the Wolves have found some semblance of a shooting stroke (34.6% over the five-game span) and seem to be sharing the ball and executing their sets with more efficiency.
There has been a bunch of awesome, quick-hitting sets that I could break down all day, but let’s run the microscope over four of the best. Four that would have made Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch breathe a sigh of relief after watching the Wolves slog through the mud on offense all season long.
